Are you a Library and Information Technology student hoping to do a placement at Lakehead? Lakehead Libraries is able to accept two placement students per semester during the following months:
- Fall semester: October - December
- Winter semester: February - April
- Spring/summer semester: May - August
Please note that we will not be offering placement positions during Summer 2024 due to planned construction affecting the Chancellor Paterson Library. Unfortunately, we cannot host placement students during the months of September or January. All placements at this time will be primarily in-person.
To apply, please email Sara Janes, sjanes1@lakeheadu.ca. Please attach a resume, and indicate when you would be available for the placement, and any preferred aspects of library work you would most like to learn about. As much as you are able, please email about possible placements between one and two months ahead of your preferred start date. You will be asked to participate in a short interview (zoom or in person) ahead of the confirmation of your placement.
Past placement students have:
- Supported special events
- Developed digital library collections
- Designed thematic book displays
- Created inventories and finding aids for archival records
- Assisted with interlibrary loan
- Scanned archival photographs
- Learned the basics of working the circulation desk and interacting with patrons
- Interviewed and shadowed library staff from various departments
