Online Catalogue - The Library's web-based Online Catalogue system, VOYAGER allows for searching books, government documents, serials, electronic and web sources, audio-visual materials, reserve materials and past examinations. A small collection of Northern-related journal analytics may also be searched. Computers for searching VOYAGER are available on all floors of The Chancellor Paterson Library and in the Education Library. VOYAGER can also be accessed through the Library’s web page by clicking on Online Catalogue.
Books - The Book Collections of both libraries are arranged by call number. Most books in The Chancellor Paterson Library are located on the 3rd and 4th Floors.
Periodicals - Print periodicals in The Chancellor Paterson Library are arranged by call number and are located on the 2nd Floor. In the Education Library periodicals are arranged alphabetically by titles in the Reference Room.
Reference Collection - The Reference Collections of both libraries include encyclopedias, periodical indexes and abstracts, dictionaries, yearbooks, bibliographies and directories. Atlases, university and college calendars and telephone directories are also located in the Reference area of The Chancellor Paterson Library. Items in the Reference Collection may be used in the Library only.
Government Publications- Located in on the ground floor of The Chancellor Paterson Library, this collection includes publications of local, provincial and national government agencies and of some international organizations.
Microforms - Most of the Microforms Collection is located in The Chancellor Paterson Library, but some microform materials are available in The Education Library and North. This collection includes books, periodicals, newspapers, reports and other materials which have been reproduced is reduced format on microfilm, microfiche, or microcard.
Northern Studies Resource Centre - Located on the 5th Floor
of The Chancellor Paterson Library, this collection includes material pertaining to the history and socioeconomic development of Northern Ontario. The Northern Studies Resource Centre houses the Regional, North, Faculty and University Collections. The Regional collection focuses on Northern Ontario and the North Collection focuses on the circumpolar north. The Faculty Offprint collection contains offprints of articles and reviews by faculty and staff. The University Collection maintains an historical record of Lakehead University through publications of the University and Faculty.
There are also a number of CD-ROMs and electronic resources relating to regional and northern studies available in the Centre.
For more information on The Northern Studies Resource Centre and its collections, contact the Centre at 343-8728 Hours from September to April are Monday to Friday 10:30 am to 4:30 pm, and Sunday from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Please note that the Centre is not open Sundays during May and June however weekday hours remain the same. Summer hours during July and August are 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm Monday to Friday. Special Collections and Archives -
The Rare Book and Restricted Access Material Collections are located in closed areas on the 5th Floor of The Chancellor Paterson Library. Other special collections are also located in closed areas on the same floor. These materials can be recognized by the location designation used in the Online Catalogue. Requests for these materials, which must be used in the Library, should be made at the Reference Desk on the main floor. The Theses Collection is located at the Circulation Desk and requests for items in this collection should be made there.
